FAQs
Yes, graduates do. Those who combine strong academic performance, solid clinical skills, and professionalism match into competitive residency programs in the U.S., and many international medical graduates match into internal medicine and family medicine.
A medical education at WUSOM opens doors to a physician’s career, and our location in St. Kitts gives students access to a wide range of healthcare facilities for clinical training. As an international medical graduate (IMG), you’ll complete ECFMG certification and enter a Match process that rewards early preparation.
WUSOM meets Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) requirements, so our graduates are eligible for ECFMG certification, can take USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, and can apply for residencies in the U.S. After completing residency training and passing the required board examinations, you can pursue licensure to practice medicine in the U.S., as graduates of American and Canadian schools do.
WUSOM graduates receive a Doctor of Medicine degree that is recognized internationally. Licensure requirements differ by country, and some countries require foreign medical graduates to pass additional exams before approval to practice. Check the rules for the country where you plan to practice, and ask our admissions team if you’d like help finding them.
