Is WUSOM accredited?

Yes. WUSOM is accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP), a body recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). WUSOM is also recognized by the St. Christopher and Nevis Accreditation Board.

Can Nigerian students apply for U.S. residency programs after graduating from WUSOM?

Yes. Eligible graduates pursue ECFMG certification and apply for residency training programs in the United States, subject to meeting all applicable requirements.

Will a WUSOM degree be recognized if I want to return to practice in Nigeria?

Foreign medical qualifications are evaluated by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) on a case-by-case basis. WFME recognition is generally a key consideration in MDCN’s evaluation process for foreign-trained doctors. We encourage applicants to confirm current requirements directly with the MDCN.

Can WUSOM graduates also pursue opportunities in other countries?

Yes. WUSOM’s globally recognized accreditation has supported graduates pursuing further licensure, training, and practice opportunities in multiple countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and across the Middle East, subject to each country’s specific medical licensing requirements.

Where do students complete clinical rotations?

After completing their basic sciences at the WUSOM St. Kitts campus, students gain hands-on clinical experience through rotations at affiliated hospitals and healthcare facilities across the United States.

Is the MCAT required for Nigerian applicants?

No. Nigerian applicants are exempt from MCAT submission as part of the standard application requirements.

What are the admission requirements for Nigerian applicants?

Applicants are generally required to submit a minimum of 90 undergraduate credit hours (or equivalent qualification), letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and information about relevant clinical, volunteer, research, leadership, or work experience. Equivalency of Nigerian qualifications is assessed individually by our admissions team.

Do I need a bachelor's degree to apply?

While many applicants hold a bachelor’s degree, WUSOM primarily requires completion of equivalent undergraduate coursework and credit hours along with necessary prerequisite subjects.

How large are the class sizes?

WUSOM maintains small class sizes with an approximately 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio, allowing for personalized academic support and mentorship.

How does WUSOM prepare students for the USMLE?
