Is WUSOM accredited?

Yes. WUSOM is accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP), a body recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). WUSOM is also recognized by the St. Christopher and Nevis Accreditation Board.

Can South African students apply for U.S. residency programs after graduating from WUSOM?

Yes. Eligible graduates pursue ECFMG certification and apply for residency training programs in the United States, subject to meeting all applicable requirements.

Will a WUSOM degree be recognized if I want to return to practice in South Africa?

Foreign medical qualifications are evaluated by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) on a case-by-case basis. WFME recognition is generally a key consideration in HPCSA’s evaluation process for foreign-trained doctors. We encourage applicants to confirm current requirements directly with the HPCSA.

Where do WUSOM students complete their clinical rotations?

After completing the basic sciences at the WUSOM St. Kitts campus, students complete their clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals and healthcare facilities across the United States, gaining hands-on experience in real-world patient care settings.

What are the admission requirements for South African applicants?

Applicants are generally required to submit a minimum of 90 undergraduate credit hours (or equivalent qualification), letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and information about relevant clinical, volunteer, research, leadership, or work experience. Equivalency of South African qualifications is assessed individually by our admissions team.

Do I need a bachelor's degree to apply?

While many applicants hold a bachelor’s degree, WUSOM primarily requires completion of equivalent undergraduate coursework and credit hours along with necessary prerequisite subjects.

How large are the class sizes?
