  Basic to Clinicals

The objective of Windsor University School of Medicine is to create strong medical students, strong residents and strong physicians. During this process it is very important to build the basic fundamentals of Medicine which is done during the Basic Medical Sciences. In Basic Medical Sciences Windsor through its strong curriculum and exam system makes sure that the student will attain a strong base in the structure of human body, normal function of human body and abnormal function of human body.

After building the basic fundamentals student is prepared for clinical rotations in our teaching hospitals where they will face the supervising attending physicians. Windsor likes to make sure that all our students apply the basic science knowledge into clinical rotations and are prepared well to answer any and every question that the attending physician likes to test the student.

During this transition from Basic to clinical sciences, Windsor likes to make sure that our students are very well equipped with the HISTORY TAKING SKILLS, PHYSICAL DIAGNOSIS AND INTRODUCTION TO CLINICAL MEDICINE.

WHAT DO WE DO TO TRAIN A WINDSOR STUDENT BEFORE HE/SHE STEPS IN THE HOSPITALS?

Windsor prepares the students for clinical rotations by intensive teaching in HOW TO TAKE A HISTORY? HOW DO YOU DO A PHYSICAL EXAM? HOW A STUDENT SHOULD APPLY BASIC SCIENCE KNOWLEDGE IN A PATIENT? HOW TO READ THE LAB? HOW DOES THE STUDENT DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSE A PATIENTS PROBLEM? HOW TO READ BASIC X-RAYS, E.K.G, CT SCAN, MRI ? WHAT ARE THE MEDICAL ETHICS AND ONE SHOULD FOLLOW TO PRACTICE MEDICINE? WHAT TO REVIEW IN THE INTRODUCTION TO CLINICAL MEDICINE?

HOW DO WE DO ALL THIS?

Teaching Methodology of History Taking Skills and Physical Diagnosis:

1. Student attends Recorded and Live lectures in H& P
2. Student gets our handouts on " MAIN HISTORY AND PHYSICAL EXAM"
3. Student is given our 100 common cases that most commonly seen in the hospitals
4. Student does History and Physical Exercises. Students fill out all 100 cases in written format.
5. Student practices the live History and Physical exam
6. Student takes our series of 5 History and Physical exams
7. Student is given exercises in the lab reports and how to interpret the lab values
8. Student is given cases for differential diagnosis? He or She has to write up what is the next step to do in this patient?
