SELECTION
CRITERIA
Each
applicant for admission is considered
on the basis of their academic record,
letters of recommendation, and the student's
record of involvement in college and
community activities. Central to our
selection process is a personal interview
which allows the University to assess
the applicant's background, aptitude
and in particular, the motivation for
the study of medicine. The Admissions
Committee selects those applicants who,
in its judgment, appear to be best qualified
for the study and practice of medicine.
While
there is no exact formula, which can
determine, whether you will be accepted
for admission, the admissions committee
basis its decisions on a combination
of factors including undergraduate grade
point average, grade point average in
required pre-medical course work, advanced
Biology and Chemistry courses, letters
of recommendation, personal essays,
the interview, work history, and professional
or volunteer experiences.

Applicants
who completed their undergraduate studies
in countries having an educational system
different from that of the United States
will be evaluated on their merits but
will be expected to have completed educational
requirements comparable to those of
students from the United States. All
required documents, if originally in
a foreign language, must be translated
into English and submitted along with
a notarized translation. All transcripts
documenting post-secondary course work
done in institutions outside the United
States must also be evaluated by an
approved credential evaluation service.
Contact the Admissions Office for more
information on these matters.
TEST
OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE ( TOEFL
)
Applicants
who have not taken a sufficient amount
of their academic coursework in English
must take the Test of English as a Foreign
Language (TOEFL) and present the official
record of the scores. The Windsor University
School of Medicine TOEFL Institutional
Code Number is ______. The minimum acceptable
score is 550.
ADMISSIONS PROCESS
Serious
consideration is given to all candidates
whose undergraduate work (and performance
on the MCAT if submitted) indicates
that they have the potential to excel
in the study of medicine. In assessing
that potential, the Committee evaluates
all factors related to the applicant's
scholastic record.
Although
scholastic performance is an important
consideration in the admissions process,
it is not the only factor considered.
The Committee also considers letters
of recommendation, the applicant's record
of accomplishments beyond the scholastic,
pre-medical committee evaluations, and
his or her personal qualities. Also
desirable is documentation of any meaningful
exposure to medicine.
Those
whose application documents are judged
to be indicative of the potential necessary
for successfully completing the prescribed
course of study will be invited for
an interview, generally within two to
four weeks after the application is
received. Persons whose applications
are incomplete or whose qualifications
are not acceptable will be so notified.
The Admissions Committee's decision
is communicated by letter to the applicant
as soon as possible after the interview.
After
receiving notification of admission,
the student must place a $500 deposit
to hold his or her place in the class.
This deposit shall be credited to the
first semester's tuition.
